American Revolution Hanging Ornament

This hanging ornament unites historically significant symbols from both America and Britain, reflecting the enduring legacy of the American Revolution.

The right-hand side represents America. The central suspension loop echoes the glory motif found on the Great Seal. Pine cones and needles reference the historic Pine Tree Flag, widely used during the American Revolution, symbolising strength and resilience. Four feathers reflect Indigenous symbolism of the four cardinal directions along which the Revolution unfolded. The olive branch, with its 13 leaves and 13 olives, represents peace and the original thirteen colonies, while the rose signifies love of God, country, and fellow man. The Bald Eagle, the national emblem of the United States, is gold-plated and was formally adopted as part of the Great Seal in 1782. Beneath the eagle sits Hopkinson’s Flag (1777), attributed to Francis Hopkinson, one of the designers of early American flags.

The left-hand side represents Britain with many of the elements inspired by King George III’s coat of arms. The crown suspended from the ornament is King George III’s coronation crown. Oak leaves and acorns, long associated with England’s national tree, represent strength and continuity. A unicorn horn with chains symbolise sovereign power and restraint. The floral emblems—the Tudor rose, shamrock, and thistle—reflect England, Ireland, and Scotland as traditionally represented within royal heraldry. The gold-plated lion’s head, featured on King George III’s coat of arms, symbolises monarchy, authority, and valour. Below the lion’s head is the Union Jack, and uniting the two sides is a scroll engraved ‘1776–2026’, commemorating the 250-year celebration of American independence.

This ornament has been hand-modelled by a skilled English jewellery maker and cast in our factory in Folkestone, England, using highly polished fine English pewter. Selected elements are 24ct gold-plated, hand-enamelled, and embellished with the finest Austrian crystals. The ornament is complete with a Stars and Stripes ribbon made in the USA. A truly unique collector’s piece, this ornament is made to order, combining exceptional craftsmanship with rich historical symbolism.
