The original crown was made by Garrard for Queen Mary in 1911 for her Coronation as consort to King George V. Queen Mary presented it to the Crown Collection in 1914 with the intention of it being the future Queen consort’s crown. It had been the tradition since Plantagenet times for a Queen not to attend the coronation of her successor. Queen Mary broke with this tradition in 1937, probably to show solidarity after the abdication of King Edward VIII, and wore the crown as a circlet without arches. This crown has been amended with 4 arches removed for the Coronation of the Queen Consort Camilla on the 6th May 2023.
Our miniature crowns are 1/12th scale. They are handmade in England from fine English pewter, feature a faux ermine rim, velvet hat insert and are adorned with bohemian crystals.
